Inspired by the success of its thought-provoking and engaging festivals held annually in the UK, Wellington College now hosts two main festivals in China: The Arts Festival and the Festival of Education. Alongside these, we also host a growing number of events, including our annual Summer Festival, theatre productions and musical concerts, a wide range of sports tournaments, science week, inter-house competitions and a variety of educational and cultural events such as the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Launched in Shanghai in March 2015, the Arts Festival celebrates all artistic forms and disciplines through a collection of workshops, talks, performances and productions, all of which are delivered by a wide range of renowned artists and experts, many from the UK. As well as the key artistic activities for the pupils, we also provide adult-specific sessions for parents, with the aim of encouraging everybody to participate in this vibrant annual appreciation of the arts and their importance in education.
During October, the Wellington College Festival of Education aims to stimulate and spread fresh ideas regarding all areas of learning and teaching. The Festival welcomes everyone to join in the educational debate by listening to lectures, engaging with the innovative and thought-provoking workshop sessions, and considering out-of-the-box ideas. Special guest lecturers from Wellington College in the UK and from the Chinese education community visit Shanghai to offer pupils, parents and visitors first-hand experience on a range of educational subjects.
Sandwiched between these two broadly cultural events is the Summer Festival, which is a seasonal celebration of arts, crafts, cuisine, sport and other miscellaneous activities, hosted in the College grounds. This is a hugely enjoyable event designed to bring the whole Wellington community together in celebration of our achievements and values.
