We are much more than a group of schools. We are a community of pupils, parents, teachers and non-academic support staff unified by a common purpose — to help children become Inspired, Intellectual, Independent, Individual and Inclusive.

Our schools have a deeply engrained culture, founded on the Wellington Values of Courage, Respect, Integrity, Kindness and Responsibility.

We are committed to providing a caring  and supportive workplace with world-class facilities where all employees can thrive, reach their full potential, take pride in their work and enjoy a true sense of belonging to a community.

Whether it is competitive salaries, generous health insurance packages (for you and your family), reduced tuition for your children or return airfare for our foreign employees, we make sure our employees feel cared for.

A Caring Community

We want all new team members to feel like they are part of the Wellington Family. Our HR team will be there with you every step of the way.

Wellbeing is not just for our pupils. We understand that coming to a new country is a big step. So, we do everything we can to ensure a soft landing in China. We will help with everything from housing and bank accounts to leisure and dining recommendations. In addition to doing deeply fulfilling work with an amazing team, our employees enjoy lots of fun events and activities where they can build friendships with their colleagues.

David Mackinnon
Deputy Head of Senior Schools

My professional journey in China began at a government-funded international school, but I eagerly seized the opportunity to join Wellington College upon its establishment - drawn by its prestigious British heritage and unwavering commitment to educational excellence.

For fourteen rewarding years, I've witnessed firsthand how our dual focus on academic rigor and holistic pupil development cultivates globally-minded graduates of exceptional character. When the chance arose to be a part of Wellington College Hangzhou's founding team, my family and I enthusiastically relocated to champion our world-class educational philosophy in Zhejiang province.

The institution has consistently empowered me professional growth through diverse leadership opportunities across multiple educational domains, demonstrating exceptional investment in staff development. I remain passionately committed to advancing our pupils' transformative journeys while contributing to Wellington's ongoing evolution as a beacon of international education excellence.

Classroom Teacher & EY3 Year Group Leader

I am about to start my fifth year at Hiba Academy Shanghai, and what a fulfilling journey it has been! The nursery is a carefully curated setting that is constantly being adapted to meet the needs of our learners.

At Hiba Academy, we prioritise building trust with our learners, parents, and staff, and strive to ensure that our practice is of the highest standard. The culture and values at Hiba Academy enable each teacher to shine as they contribute to various aspects of the school.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities that Hiba Academy has provided, as it has shaped me into an educator who is eager to learn from others while leading with courage and knowledge. If you are looking for a unique place that challenges you to grow and rewards hard work and commitment, this is the school for you!

Tobias Oyugi
Head of Computer Science

I joined Wellington in 2021, overcoming the challenges of Covid-19, drawn by the school's reputation for nurturing career growth. Though the pandemic delayed my start, I remained convinced Wellington was the ideal environment for my professional aspirations, and my children agreed it was the best place for their education. Four years later, I'm grateful for our decision to join this exemplary institution that fosters a thriving educational community.

Wellington's commitment to professional excellence and outstanding HR practices have been pivotal in my advancement. Two years after joining, I became Head of Computer Science, illustrating its recognition and support for educators. The school's dedication to continuous professional development enabled me to train as an expert Robotics coach, integrating Robotics into our curriculum, making Wellington Shanghai one of the few schools globally to offer Robotics from Primary to Secondary education.

Supported by Wellington’s leadership, I've become a certified mentor with Warwick University, guiding new teachers worldwide and enhancing my own reflective practice. Amongst committed students, I’ve had the privilege of nurturing future leaders, including those entering prestigious Ivy League universities. Wellington stands as a beacon of educational professionalism and growth, cultivating global citizens ready to transform the world.

Clark Zhang
Director of studies/ Secondary Physics Teacher

Joining Hiba Academy Shanghai has been a transformative educational journey. I’ve been fortunate to grow alongside the school, contribute to its vibrant community, and witness countless milestones filled with achievement.

Interestingly, during my time at Hiba, I observed a fascinating shift in educational priorities reflected in John Hattie’s groundbreaking Visible Learning research. The former number one strategy, self-reported grades, emphasized the power of students’ self-awareness and the importance of nurturing high, challenging expectations—a philosophy we now embody in our motto, “Be You. Be More.”  The new number one strategy is Collective Teacher Efficacy—not just individual confidence, but a shared belief in our team’s ability to make a difference. This principle inspired our collaborative effort to develop Hiba’s unique Bilingual Model, a testament to our unified vision.

It’s an honour to grow with a young school and see our collective efforts pave the way for success. Guided by Hiba’s value of “Courage,” I’ve embraced risks, pursued continuous improvement, and discovered the power of perseverance.
