Coaching is a significant part of the ethos of Wellington College Education (China). All of our senior leaders benefit from access to an external, professional coach whom they work with closely to support their own personal and professional development goals. We also offer coaching training. Many of our senior leaders have now trained as coaches and are coaching aspiring and high-potential leaders within the Group.

The Bridge

As a trained coach, I was able to start spreading my influence beyond my current role and make an impact across the entire Wellington College Education (China) group. I also started thinking about a career as a consultant, trainer and education adviser. What I like most about being a coach is that I have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others by helping them achieve their goals and reach their full potential. I would highly recommend the coaching programme to colleagues who are looking to reflect on their leadership skills and step up to senior leadership roles.

Angela Pan
Associate Bursar

Working at Wellington has been an incredibly enriching experience for me, both personally and professionally. I have had access to diverse training opportunities and leadership development programmes, which have significantly supported my growth from Finance Manager to senior leadership role as Associate Bursar.

One particularly transformative initiative was the Group’s Telescope Programme, designed to develop future Bursars internally. Through this programme, I gained comprehensive experience, invaluable mentorship, and strategic insights that broadened my perspective. It also encouraged deep self-reflection, allowing me to identify my strengths, address areas for growth, and refine my leadership style.  The programme equipped me with the confidence and capabilities to lead effectively. I am deeply grateful for its lasting impact on my professional development.

Yuki Gong
Head of Early Years Campus Shanghai

I am honored to have participated in the group’s High Potential Leadership Programme—an enriching and transformative journey. Through comprehensive training, including the NPQSL qualification, I developed key competencies across multiple areas, while the coaching sessions encouraged profound self-reflection—equipping me to advance from Deputy Head of Early Years to senior leadership role as Head of Early Years.

What sets this programme apart is its tailored approach, designed to provide all the tools necessary for professional development. I highly recommend it to emerging leaders, confident they will benefit just as I did. This experience has been invaluable, leaving a lasting impact on my leadership journey. Now, I have the opportunity to support others in their professional development, which is deeply rewarding.

Maths Teacher / Head of Primary Maths

Joined Hiba Academy Nantong in August 2022

I was working in Wellington College International Tianjin (WCIT) for 10 years before I joined Hiba Academy Nantong. Deeply impressed by Wellington and Huili’s educational philosophies and values is the reason why I have been working in Wellington College China for more than 12 years.

I am grateful for my 10 years in WCIT, where I gained PGCE from Durham University. I also enjoyed its diverse and international working atmosphere. I am grateful for my three years’ journey in Hiba Nantong, where I’ve experienced a lot of challenges, difficulties, persistence, as well as professional growth and development! Wellington provides various CPD courses and enriching trainings to enhance not only my teaching & learning techniques but also my leadership and management skills. In Hiba Nantong, the unwavering support from all my dear colleagues fueled my confidence, pushing me to thrive as a bilingual educator and a middle leader.

Wellington is such a warm family that is full of love and care! The school always trusts me with all my responsibilities and encourages me to keep learning & trying. All colleagues are super supportive, we share joy and tears, and become lifelong friends. Wellington is not just a workplace, it is a magic place where you can discover your potentials and realize self-worth!

Felix Ogando
Deputy Head of Senior School

Joined Wellington College International Tianjin in August 2017

Joining Wellington College International Tianjin in 2017 was a transformative decision. I was initially drawn by the school’s compelling vision, presented by the then Master at a Shanghai recruitment fair. Wellington’s reputation for world-class education, anchored in its strong values and mission, has lived up to every expectation. The community truly embodies these principles, fostering an environment where both pupils and staff thrive.

What stands out most is the incredible sense of community and the supportive work culture. The school’s commitment to professional development has been instrumental in my growth, allowing me to progress from teacher to Deputy Head of Senior School. Wellington nurtures talent, encourages innovation, and provides opportunities to thrive, making it an inspiring place to work and grow. I’m proud to be part of this exceptional institution.

Karl Hockley
IBDP Coordinator/Secondary English Teacher IBDP

Joined Hiba Academy Shanghai in August 2020

I have been at Wellington College China for five years. During this time, I have been entrusted with developing the English provision in our secondary school, allowing me to support students' academic aspirations and accompany them to international competitions. I have also enjoyed the unique opportunity to teach across the year groups, deepening my appreciation for Wellington’s connected, supportive community and its holistic approach to education.

Professional growth has been a constant here. I have been supported through the NPQSL and a range of IBDP training opportunities, all of which have equipped me to take on new challenges. Most recently, stepping into the role of IBDP Coordinator.

The environment Wellington provides to collaborate with dedicated colleagues has been exciting and rewarding. Its overall commitment to empowering its teachers has made my experience truly fulfilling, offering many opportunities to grow and to make a meaningful impact on our pupils’ learning.
