Expanding the Reach of International and Bilingual Education

In 2009, Joy partnered with Wellington College in the UK to establish Wellington College Education (China), pioneering a model that blends the best of Chinese and British education. From its first school in Tianjin in 2011 to the Hiba bilingual brand and its first overseas campus, the Group has grown over nearly two decades to seven schools across five cities in China and the US, serving more than 5,300 pupils and employing over 1,300 faculty and staff.

Educating for Human Flourishing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The Group's proprietary AI education platform supports learning, teaching and school operations through a range of AI-enabled tools. The initiative received Second Prize in the K–12 category of the 8th Global Competition on Design for Future Education, jointly organised by Beijing Normal University and UNESCO's Institute for Information Technologies in Education. In 2026, it was also featured as a Microsoft Customer Success Story.

At the same time, the Group has continued to consider a broader question: what knowledge, skills and qualities will young people need for an AI-driven future? Drawing on the OECD's Educating for Human Flourishing in the Age of AI framework, Joy advocates an approach that places equal importance on understanding, appreciating and acting in the world with adaptive problem solving and ethical competence.

At Wellington College Education (China) schools, technology is not an end in itself. It is a tool that can support a broader educational mission: helping young people develop the character, capabilities and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to society.

Building Cultural Bridges

This vision is reflected in the Hiba Academy Shanghai Class of 2026, 100% of whom received a bilingual diploma in the International Baccalaureate examinations. Their achievement highlights the strength of Hiba's bilingual and multicultural education. At the same time, the school is becoming a study abroad destination for ambitious learners. Since launching its International Boarding Programme in 2025, it has attracted dozens of senior pupils from around the world to study at Hiba Academy Nantong. Wellington graduates can also be found at leading universities in China, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. A two-way flow of culture and talent has emerged and continues to deepen.

Under Joy's leadership, Wellington College Education (China) has also expanded internationally. This September, the Group opened its first overseas school, Hiba Academy Bay Area, in San Francisco. This is an important milestone as it brings the Group's educational model to more families and creates new opportunities for cultural exchange between East and West.
