Creating a world-class group of schools is already a rewarding enterprise. But it is even more rewarding when others take notice of our hard work. Wellington College China schools continue to get recognition, with accolades for everything from academic excellence to mental health provisions and even healing landscape design. Here is a review of our most recent awards.
Top KingLead rankings

2023 began with several accolades from KingLead, one of China’s most reputable school-ranking services. Hiba Academy Hangzhou made it onto KingLead’s 2023 ‘China International School Brand Value Top 100’ list. Additionally, our Wellington Colleges in Tianjin, Shanghai and Hangzhou were included on KingLead’s ‘China International School Research Top 100’ list and its ‘China International School Innovative Competitiveness Ranking Top 100’ list. In addition, Julian Jeffrey, Chief Executive Master, received KingLead’s ‘Global Leading Principal’ award.
Excellence in IB,
science and sustainability
at Wellington Shanghai
Wellington Shanghai has been getting noticed for its achievements in IB, sustainability, social awareness and design.
IB-schools.com, a globally recognised website that guides parents and pupils to schools with the best IB programmes in the world has named the school among the 'Top 3 IB Schools in China’ and the ‘Top 40 Global IB Schools’.

Wellington Shanghai recently became a member school of Global Social Leaders (GSL). This is a community of like-minded and values-driven schools and partners committed to building a global movement of socially conscious young people who are equipped to be leaders in their lives and society. Through this organisation, Wellington Shanghai pupils will have access to GSL’s Global Goals Competition programme. This features a range of recognition awards for participants, team leader training and masterclasses to help develop project planning and leadership skills.
Additionally, the Ecological Landscape Alliance recently recognised the College’s campus beautification project with its annual Healing Landscape Award.

Finally, we are pleased to share that Wellington Shanghai was shortlisted in the British Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 China Schools Awards in the categories of ‘Science and Technology’ and ‘Students for Sustainability’.


Wellington Hangzhou
sets new standards in
mental health
Late last year, Wellington Hangzhou was awarded the Silver standard for the Carnegie Centre of Excellence Mental Health in Schools ‘Further Education Mental Health Award’. This is important because it is the first award of its kind for any school in China. It is a testament to the school’s commitment to prioritising mental health and wellbeing and creating a culture in which all members of the school community can thrive and improve pupil outcomes.

Hiba Hangzhou
makes the REIS List
Hiba Hangzhou made it on the 2022 REIS List. Launched by Sina Education, Weibo Education and Zexiaoxing. The REIS List recognises the best international and bilingual schools in terms of management, faculty, curriculum and more.

Individual accolades at
Wellington Tianjin
Wellington Tianjin received an International Design Award for the recent renovation of its Founder’s Library.

And last, but certainly not least, please join us in congratulating Dr Yang Yang, Master of Wellington College Tianjin. Beijing-based research and consultancy firm New School Insight named her ‘Master of the Year’. She was also named ‘2022 Outstanding Contributor to the Integration of Western and Chinese Education’ at the 2022 ‘Echoes in China’ Tencent Education International School Development Forum.
