Nicola joins Wellington from a large primary school in Berkshire, where she taught Year 3 as a newly qualified teacher. This is where she completed her training on the Graduate Teacher Programme, through nearby Reading University.
“Whilst studying International Relations and French at the University of Exeter, I spent a year teaching English to primary- aged children in Paris. It was this experience which made me realise that teaching was the career that I wanted to pursue.
“I cannot put into words how excited I am to be one of the founding staff at Wellington Shanghai. Being part of a school with such a fabulous ethos and high levels of pastoral care is something that I really value.
“Wellington’s Eight Aptitudes approach to education is something that I believe in wholeheartedly. No two children are the same, and I make sure individual talents and strengths are recognised and nurtured both inside and outside of the classroom. Hopefully by now, some of the children will even share my love of dance!
“Developing the whole child and equipping them with the skills to be successful, happy and inquisitive is very important to me. Through creating a classroom atmosphere based on mutual respect and team work, I hope to guide the children I work with to become independent learners and to take pride in everything they do.
“Being based in the vibrant city of Shanghai is absolutely amazing. Having already travelled around Thailand, I hope to visit as much of China and South East Asia as possible!”
