The arts are central to Wellington life: every pupil is involved in our dynamic arts programme, which seeks to inspire their creative imagination and to make the very most of their artistic talent and potential. We aim to give every Wellingtonian a lifelong enjoyment across drama, dance, music, creative writing, art and design. We offer a wide programme of activities and annual events with opportunities for pupils to perform and showcase their learning and talent. The area is taught by a team of experienced professionals with real-life, and diverse backgrounds in the arts.
The theatre is the home of drama at Wellington. With regular performances, the department demonstrates versatility and depth by staging major musicals and a variety of plays, as well as House events, drama competitions and pupil-led productions.
Dance gives Wellington pupils experience in a variety of different disciplines. Our dance classes include ballet, jazz dance, Hip Hop, contemporary and physical theatre – and allow our pupils to explore a whole range of movement related experiences.
Visual art is another core part of our curriculum and pupils get to explore a wide range of medium from textiles and sculpture to pottery and fine arts. The quality of the pupils’ work is evident throughout the College. In corridor displays and exhibitions, the variety and creativity in each piece is exceptional.
Music at Wellington is excellent. Whether the interest is classical, rock, jazz, or pop, Wellington provides an enormously diverse and impressive musical programme. We enjoy concerts and recitals throughout the academic year.
Creative writing, debating and film-making are deeply embedded in Wellington life. During the annual Arts Festival, pupils participate in a variety of workshops from graffiti to journalism, story telling, clowning, manga and beyond.
