What are the advantages of boarding life at Wellington College China school?
Huili School Nantong Parent

We can see positive changes in our child since he started boarding at Huili. For example, he is more independent, and this independence will gradually manifest itself more, the longer he is away from home. He has made some very good friends as he spends more time with his classmates. He uses his time more effectively. He no longer wastes precious time on a commute. Our relationship has improved as well, and we get to spend more time with him on the weekends. It is great to hear about what he learns at school and pay witness to his growth.

As a parent, I see the changes and progress my child has made during his time on campus over the past year. I am very happy and thankful for this. I would like to thank Huili School Nantong for its strong management system, the teachers for their feedback in the classroom, the boarding staff for their patience and guidance, for Simon and the school nurses for their hard work and late nights.

In the boarding house, I have become more disciplined and more caring to others’ feelings. I learned a lot of things, like what teamwork really is, what hard work really is, what cooperation really is. Come on, you can do it too!

After Richard joined the boarding house, I found that he no longer needed my help to organize his personal belongings. He sorted things out in an orderly manner, although there were still some imperfections in the details, his independence has improved greatly. Apart from the initial adjustment period, he has made significant progress in other areas as well. I am very grateful for everything that the teachers at the school have done for him!

Boarding life is an extension of the holistic education at Huili School Nantong and we encourage our boarders to appreciate the Huili values. It engenders team spirit, helps the children learn to accept each other’s failings and to support each other in times of difficulty. Boarders learn to respect others, the importance of being kind and courteous and taking responsibility for one’s own actions.  The spiritual development of our boarders is also an important part of our ethos; in an increasingly individualistic world, these qualities stand our boarders in good stead.

Meanwhile, boarders explore their potential and interests with passion and enthusiasm through a wide range of activities in the boarding house. They learn by living with peers from across the country and develop life-long friendships. They discover important life skills in the process. Best of all, some of the most memorable, positive, and fun experiences happen within the boarding house!

Our children thrive in a vibrant, comfortable and safe environment with outstanding care and nurturing.  It is a genuine “Home Away From Home” to our boarders.

Academic Journey
How does Wellington College China school support you to develop holistically and thrive happily?
Nicole
Wellington College Tianjin

I am able to participate in many extracurricular activities such as music, sports and singing, which gave me an outlet from my study and made me a better all-round person. For most of the experiences I have had, Wellington has been at the foundation. I feel that being around people from different backgrounds has given me a much broader perspective on the world.

I really love debate, and it has changed me a lot. You spend a lot of time carefully crafting your arguments on a given topic. But debates also require a lot of preparation, and this has taught me how to work better as a member of a team. Huili has provided me with ample opportunities for learning and practice.

How has the Wellington College China experience helped you in your university and career?

Class of 2020 Wellington College International Shanghai

I’ve been in Wellington since the very beginning as a founding member. It’s a fantastic experience to see how the school has grown from a very small population to such a big community now. One thing I always felt about Wellington is that it is always a bonded family to me. People here are more than just friends.  Whenever I come back here, it always makes me feel very good, like home does. The teachers and staff here also helped me become who I am today — independent, open-minded, organised and to be able to express my opinions clearly. I think these are the skills I can take on from Wellington to my life in the future.

The Wellington experience has enabled me to integrate more quickly into American life. Firstly, it helped me to overcome the language barrier early. Secondly, it gave me the courage to communicate and express myself. Finally, Wellington's courses are more diverse and help to stimulate our creativity. All of this has benefited me during my time at university.
