Carlton Palmer (born 5th December 1965 in Rowley Regis) is an English former professional footballer, manager and football television pundit. In recent years, Carlton has worked in Shanghai as the Director of the Wellington Academy Programme. In June 2018, Carlton launched the Wellington Academy Programme in Hangzhou, and regularly attends Wellington College Hangzhou to provide professional football coaching and training to pupils and members of the Hangzhou community.
As a player, Carlton was a defender and midfielder from 1984 to 2005, playing in the English Premier League for Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Coventry City. He also played for West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Dublin City. Carlton was a member of the Leeds United team that won what is now the Premiership in 1991-1992, and also played in both the FA Cup final and the League Cup final (twice). He was capped 18 times by England, and went into management in 2001 when he was appointed player/manager of Stockport County, later holding the same position at Mansfield Town from 2004 to 2005.
Carlton was a member of the England squad that went to the 1992 European Championships in Sweden. He was also capped 5 times for the England B team.
Palmer took on a career in television following his retirement from the game. He was a pundit for the BBC on their flagship football programme, Match of the Day, and Final Score. He has also provided match analysis for the Football Channel alongside fellow England international midfielder, Peter Reid. He is currently a resident pundit alongside host Joe Morrison and John Burridge on TEN Sports and TEN Action, analysing UEFA Champions League and Premiership matches broadcasting to Asia from Dubai. While in Dubai he has established the Elite Football Academy, coaching boys and girls from age six up to sixteen. Several of his boys have already attended trials with top professional clubs in England.
In recent years, Carlton has become a TV celebrity in his own right. He starred in a highly popular Paddy Power TV advert in 2009, which involved him being in a bath with a football fan. A year later he appeared in a one-off football special; Come Dine With Me, where the dinner he cooked was judged in first place, winning him £1000 for charity. But, as Carlton himself admitted, he does own a top restaurant in Sheffield, where he went for intensive training!
Adriano holds two MBAs from the Fluminense Federal University and a Bachelor’s degree from Candido Mendes University in Brazil.
Adriano arrived with a wealth of experience in accounting and financial analysis where he has worked in the manufacturing, engineering and electricity fields, with more than 10 years of experience in international and multicultural companies. Adriano began the venture into the education sector with the belief that each child is unique and he wants to help them find their passion and help them fulfill their dreams.
In his spare time, Adriano enjoys running, martial arts, cooking and reading books.
Maggie holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Hong Kong specializing in Information Technology in Education. She has more than five years of experience in teaching children from Kindergarten up to Junior High Students. Those experiences of teaching and research have broadened her perspective of the world and enabled her to understand the important points of being an educator.
David MacKinnon graduated from Queen’s University in Canada with an honours degree in Life Sciences. After getting his teaching degree, David went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia.
Although his specialism is maths and biology, he also has experience teaching chemistry, physics, swimming and even a bit of History. David was a founding member of the Wellington College International Tianjin group, where he was a housemaster of the Orange. While in Tianjin, he was also responsible for the after-school activity program and was the lead for teaching and learning in the Senior School.
David loves to play sports in any way, shape, or form, including; ice hockey, rollerblading, football, basketball and volleyball. When he isn’t busy working at the school, he can be seen with his two lovely children, aged two and four years old. He believes that every student has the potential to do great things and it is our role as educators to unlock that potential. He also believes it is the school’s job to educate the whole pupil and help them develop into responsible, caring global citizens.
Daisy is a Nationally Registered Psychology Counselor and has training and experience both from China and abroad in many areas of counselling.
Graduating from Zhejiang University, Daisy got her MS in Human Development & Family Studies in Iowa State University with full a scholarship. Whilst in America, Daisy worked at organizing activities for Health Centre residents as well as guiding and encouraging those residents to overcome personal issues in their lives. Daisy also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and so has excellent experience employed in school settings and working with children. She used to teach an AP psychology course. More recently she has worked as a counselor in Zhejiang University Mental Health Education and Counseling Center.
Daisy is a member of the China American Psychoanalytic Alliance (CAPA) and her psychological training includes psychodynamics, play therapy, Systemic Family Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness & meditation, hypnosis, crisis intervention, etc.
Daisy works with, listens to and supports any children within our school who, for whatever reason, feel they need support in their personal lives. With counseling training and experiences with adults, she is also glad to support faculty and staff, individually or in a group.
Mandy graduated from China Communication University. Before joining Wellington College International Hangzhou, Mandy worked as Academy Coordinator and PA to Director of Academy in Wellington International Shanghai for three and half years. She has gained abundant experience in activity planning and organizing in Wellington and another international school in Beijing. In addition to her current duties, Mandy is looking forward to working with our Duke Box Manager next academic year.
In her spare time, Mandy loves ultimate frisbee, hiking and jewellery design.
Richard has been an Assistant Vice Principal and Director of Sixth Form with 21 years teaching experience with an exemplary career in Teesside in the North East of England. After completing his Bachelor of Education (Honours) Physical Education in Bedford he moved to teach in the North East of England.
Richard has been a well-respected Senior Leader who has held whole school responsibilities for a wide range of different areas within the schools he as worked at.
Richard’s passion in education started from his love of swimming teaching for which he is now a Fellow of the Institute of Swimming.
Prior to moving out to Hangzhou he was managing and leading a personalised learning centre looking after educational needs of vulnerable students in a 11-18 academy setting. Using his vast experience and being instrumental in setting up foundation learning in Macmillan Academy, he was able to provide excellent educational outcomes for these students who had incredibly challenging life experiences.
Richard is passionate about Mental and Emotional well-being and has guest spoken at conferences and events on the impact of stress on employees and the damage to business productivity.
Richard’s academic teaching experience includes A Level and GCSE Physical Education and has led a consistently positive outcome sports vocational course.
Outside of the workplace he loves many sports & outdoor sports although his age is reducing the seriousness of the participation. During his earlier adult life, he was proud to say that he represented his country at Rugby League gain five caps and scored a try against England.
Bronwen has spent 10 years in schools after completing her PGCE with Middlesex University in 2009. Prior to this, she was an insurance underwriter in London. Since teacher training, Bronwen has worked at schools both in the UK and abroad. Having previously taught at Dulwich College Beijing, she is excited to be moving back to China and is keen to improve her somewhat rusty Chinese.
Most recently based at The British School Kathmandu, Bronwen has taught Year 6 and Year 2, as well as working with the library to improve its curriculum and layout. She was running a popular Junior Librarians club last year, whose members enjoyed learning about the inner workings of the library and how to engage others in reading.
In addition to supporting students, Bronwen enjoys helping guide colleagues through their studies for distance learning master’s degrees and other courses. This includes both the research and the writing processes. Teaching information literacy to children and adults is very satisfying for Bronwen, and it puts her experience with research to good use.
Bronwen believes that a library should be the heart of a school, and so provide the whole community with rich and varied resources that enlighten and inspire. She looks forward to developing the library collection to include a wealth of both English and Chinese language texts, in addition to digital services and other resources. Furthermore, Bronwen is excited to develop and introduce a library curriculum designed around 21st Century skills for all students.
Outside of work, Bronwen enjoys playing board games, baking, cooking and attempting to keep plants alive. She also has a passion for playing Dungeons and Dragons, which inspired her MRes dissertation. Using common elements from role-play games, Bronwen designed and ran an adventure that focused on developing the language skills of pupils learning English. In addition to these activities, Bronwen is completing an MSc in Library and Information Science, and she is hoping to focus her thesis on bilingual libraries within international schools.
Eric Wang graduated from the University of Science & Technology in Beijing with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and was also educated at Jining Normal University, majoring in musicology. He has a primary school music teacher qualification certificate, theater management and stage related technology qualification certificate. He loves education and is willing to devote himself to it. He has more than 12 years working experience in stage operation management and arts operation management. Before Eric joined the Wellington family, he worked at Suzhou Culture and Art Center.
As an enthusiast of arts, Eric has had global footprints in many famous theaters around the world, including the United Kingdom, Singapore, Poland, Taiwan China and Mainland China. After joining the Wellington family, he has been determined to make great contributions in improving the school theatre processes. He believes that perfect technological equipment is educational, and will provide pupils with guidance in future studies, which will be a great help to make pupils positive, confident and happy.
Bethan was born in Canada, then moved to Nigeria before settling in the UK as a child. She loves travel, history, theatre and of course, reading! She has moved to China with her husband, Darren who is a Primary School Teacher and their two children. She feels that she has a natural ability to build rapport with people and has a caring and supportive nature. She has always been surrounded by books, her parents owned a bookshop for 10 years where she spent many happy hours working.
Bethan has a degree in Social Policy and worked for Social Services for many years in the UK and Canada. She also spent 8 years working for the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in the UK. More recently, she spent 2 years as a Community Governor for the Vale of Evesham School and gained a CELTA – Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language qualification.
She thoroughly enjoys being part of the school community and in the past has helped raise money for schools and other charitable groups, including securing a GBP 20,000 grant for a local special needs school in the UK. She believes that it is so important for children to enjoy books, whatever their reading level and this helps them discover the hidden treasures and worlds that can only be discovered inside the pages of a book!
June Lou received his degree from China Jiliang University in 2013. During his study period, he participated in multiple national funds, international cooperation projects, and published many papers, one of which was included in SCI. He also assisted his professor to guide undergraduate experimental work. In December 2013, he joined the MacDermid Alpha Group as an application engineer with the primary responsibility of conducting laboratory work, being responsible for cooperation with R&D and marketing, upgrading projects or developing new products to meet market trends and customer needs. Later in September 2016, he joined the Wynca Group as a senior application engineer, and was responsible for the safety and quality management of the application laboratory. After 6 years of laboratory work, he has accumulated a wealth of experience in laboratory management.
