Community Services

Service lies at the heart of the very foundation of Wellington College in the 1850s, set up as it was to educate the sons of those who fell in battle serving their country. Here in Tianjin we are developing a programme that will run across the school, involving Service opportunities at a variety of levels:

  • Within the school community – A team of senior pupils who act as College Prefects, under the leadership of an inspirational Head of College and two Deputies, form the core of the pupil leadership within the school. They provide a channel of communication for our pupils to the Master and SLT, as well as organize social events, support pastoral development and lead assemblies. All pupils can engage with the Student Council, a body designed to help improve conditions for our pupils, and our Charity Committee is comprised of pupils and staff and works to raise the profile of good causes in the school.
  • In the local & regional community –pupils are responsible for raising funds for local charities and good causes, planning fundraising events and leading School and House groups that volunteer for service projects in local schools and day care centres.
  • Internationally – pupils engage with service through opportunities such as the International Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme as well as individual charitable projects across the world.
