PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

It is incredibly important to us that parents feel involved and included, both in their child’s education, as well as in the wider community of the school. For that reason we try to provide as many opportunities as possible for parental contact and involvement, and always welcome this.

Parental Involvement

It is incredibly important to us that parents feel involved and included, both in their child’s education, as well as in the wider community of the school. For that reason we try to provide as many opportunities as possible for parental contact and involvement, and always welcome this.

From formal parent-teacher conferences and briefings on specific curriculum themes to much more informal monthly gatherings in our excellent V&A coffee shop, or even just chatting at the start and end of the day, our teachers are very accessible to parents.  Junior School class teachers and Senior School Housemasters and Tutors are happy to be contacted directly, while meetings with the Leadership Team are easily arranged via the appropriate PA by phone or e-mail.

Specific advice on particular areas, such as how to support your child’s English, IGCSE coursework deadlines and A Level Guidance, is always available from the relevant member of staff. The school distributes a staff e-mail contact list which clarifies areas of responsibility, and helps to put parents in contact with the right person should queries arise.

The Friends of Wellington Association (FOW) is a committee comprising parent reps from all Key Stages, with representation from English, Chinese and Korean-speaking parents, working together with a small group of staff to plan school and community events. Chaired by The Master, the FOW meets once a term as a whole group, and informally more often in sub-groups.

Parents may well find themselves invited in to help out in a Junior class, with an Activity, or to watch an assembly or performance, and such direct parental involvement can only help to reinforce the work that the school is doing.

Newsletters (“Week Ahead”), summaries of events to come in “The Week Ahead”, and routine communication from classes and Houses are the main ways in which the school stays in touch with parents on a regular basis. Our new ‘Parent Portal’ allows online access to school reports, attendance information and so on.
