After University in Durham and Exeter, Julian began his career in 1991, teaching History in a north London Girls’ Independent School. He worked at Wellington College from January 1997, performing a variety of roles which included Head of Department, AS/A2 Public Exams’ Officer, and Assistant Housemaster. Latterly, he ran the school’s training programmes for the teaching staff, including the specific training of new teachers and the statutory induction of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs), as well as coaching sport and leading numerous school trips (for pupils, parents and staff) around the world. He also served for six years as a governor in an independent Preparatory School in Surrey. From 2014-2017, he was the Second Master and Head of the Senior School of Wellington College International Tianjin, prior to his appointment as Master of the College.
Julia Ji started her career in one of the big 4 accounting firm as senior auditor and then worked in both Beijing and Tianjin as finance controller or senior finance manager for different big MNCs: OTIS and Tetra Laval for over 10 years with rich experience on financial management, accounting, business support, people management and internal control areas. She is holding master degree of Maryland University Smith Business school EMBA and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certificate.
Dr Yang brings to the post a wealth of experience in leading young people through an education with international emphasis. She has been the Director of the International Department of Tianjin Nankai High School, and latterly she served as Vice Principal of Tianjin Foreign Languages School Affiliated to Tianjin Foreign Studies University. In this capacity, she headed the AP International Curriculum Centre, International Department and Educational Scientific Research Department.
Dr Yang’s own educational background reflects her enthusiasm for education, with her undergraduate Degree in English Teaching and MA in Chinese Literature awarded by Tianjin Normal University, and her PhD. work was in Sociology at Tianjin Nankai University.
Dr Yang will provide the school with clear leadership and develop relationships with the local Education Bureaux as the CSF continues to grow here at Wellington.
Raja joins us from the UK and has extensive experience of private and state education both in the UK and internationally. He studied business and marketing and worked in London before completing a PGCE at St Martins College, Lancaster. His first teaching role was at Magdalen College School in Brackley where he was also curriculum coordinator for South Northants Adult Education. Whilst at Magdalen, he was involved in exemplifying best practice in a Teacher Training Agency (TTA) video that was sent to every school in the UK, and was also an advisor to the National ICT Strategy. He then followed this with several other senior positions before moving on to work in the UAE with Nord Anglia Inspections within a school reform project where he led a team of academic advisors in 19 schools across different phases from early years to 16+, and coached and mentored school and college principals. The next phase of his career took him to Hyderabad, India where he led an American school, followed by his most recent post where he was transferred to Aurora Academies Trust in Eastbourne to lead a primary academy. Raja is passionate about lifelong learning and has recently completed an MA in International Education at Leicester University.
Raja joins Wellington College in Tianjin with his wife and three children, who all love to travel and explore different places and cultures.
Dragana has been working at Wellington College China International Tianjin for 5 years. Before arriving in Tianjin Dragana taught in two prestigious schools in Novi Sad, Serbia and in Bahrain. Tianjin has become home for Dragana and her family and her career has developed significantly in this time. Dragana has been Head of Mathematics, overseeing outstanding examination results and value added progress. As Deputy Head of Senior School, the quality of Teaching and Learning has risen. Dragana is passionate about teaching and is totally committed to supporting every child in the pursuit of their personal learning goals. Dragana has built very strong curriculum teams in the Senior School and applies herself with vision, creativity and full energy in building a school with aspiration to set the highest International standards and reputation.
Jonathan has extensive experience in the UK supporting both academic and pastoral needs, promoting and extending the skills and aptitudes of learners preparing for public examinations, University and Oxbridge candidates. He has been a Head of Learning Support and Personalized Learning at two of the leading and highest achieving independent schools in the UK, Christ’s Hospital School and Tonbridge. Jonathan has expertise in applied behavioral psychology and metacognition, ensuring that all pupils can achieve their potential and personal education goals. At Wellington he aims to build on the foundations of pastoral care and social and emotional aspects of the curriculum and provide all children with the opportunity to become independent empowered learners.
