Last Sunday, Wellington played host to the last in a short series of U9 and U11 football tournaments involving Shanghai international schools and three representative teams from the Chinese Educational Bureau. It was a busy morning of football marked with glorious sunshine as the boys U9 team, the girls and boys U11A teams and two boys U11 B teams battled it out.
The U11 girls narrowly lost three of their games but were victorious against Dulwich College Suzhou and finished fifth overall. The U9 boys played in a very tight group where each game was decided by the difference of a single goal. The boys beat YCIS twice and won the 3rd/4th place play off, with Taylor scoring the winning penalty. The U11A boys played with strength and conviction throughout their tournament, in particular Justin and Owen made a great pairing up front, but the boys came across a strong team Chinese team and lost 2-0, finishing as runners-up. The U11 Boys B team beat a good Dulwich College Suzhou team in the final and brought the only trophy for Wellington home that day. Overall, it was a great morning of football for players and parents alike and we congratulate everyone who took part in the tournament.
