Dean Clayden is from Scotland and has been living and working in Shanghai for six years. He previously worked at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi where he worked as year 1 and year 5 leader. During his time there, he also supported staff in adopting the teaching principles of guided reading while completing his middle leadership training.
Dean graduated with a first class honours degree in primary education from the University of Edinburgh. During his degree, Dean taught English as a foreign language at a school in the Maldives as part of a voluntary project. After graduating, he taught for three years at Peel Primary School in Scotland, where he gained experience across different levels of the school and helped to coordinate whole school concerts.
Dean is passionate about scuba diving and enjoys improving his underwater photography skills at different locations across Asia. Dean has logged over 200 dives and is hoping to continue to add to his tally. He has also recently taken an interest in street photography in order to further develop his skills. Dean is continuing to learn Mandarin and is currently studying for his HSK level 3 examination.
