What are pupils' dream universities?
Beyond dispute, Tsinghua University and Peking University are the top 2 universities in China, but what other universities would rank alongside them around the world? According to QS World University Rankings 2020, there are dozens of universities amongst the top 30 like Tsinghua University and Peking University, including University College London, Imperial College London, University of Manchester, University of California, Berkeley and the University of Toronto.
Currently 2019 Wellington College China (WCC) leavers from the Tianjin and Shanghai campuses have already attended these above-mentioned top or leading universities and started the new journey to achieve their dreams. Let's look at their excellent results.

True meaning of education:
the pursuit of academic excellence
Among all of our graduates in Tianjin and Shanghai, 18% of them are going to the world's top 20 universities and more than 40% to top 50 universities.
Our 2019 Wellington leavers have chosen to study at many world leading universities. From University College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science, to University of California, Berkeley, New York University, the University of Toronto and the University of Sydney, and to the University of the Arts London and Parsons at the New School. Their undergraduate studies comprise subjects such as geography, chemistry, management, finance, urban planning and real estate management and theatre and performance. They are stepping into the exciting new world of knowledge.
The average IB score for Wellington College International Shanghai pupils in 2019 has risen to 36.6 points (against the global average of 29 points) with 1.89 points' average core point score, significantly higher than the global average of 1.22. In Tianjin, 34% of Wellington pupils attained A*-A grades at A Level in 2019.

the development of well-rounded individuals
“We are extremely proud of the results achieved by our IB Diploma Programme students who completed their studies at Wellington College International Shanghai this summer.” said Mr. Mccallum, Head of the Sixth Form, “However it is the individual achievements of each individual student that is our proudest success. We have pupils who achieved very highly in their IBDP results – enough to access top tier institutions around the world. In all cases they have chosen to attend the best universities suited to their personal ambitions. I'm very proud that our pupils have the courage and clarity of vision to choose their educational future based entirely on what is right for them.”
Joey from Wellington College International Shanghai who is pursuing her interest in property, is at University College London studying a BA (Hon.) in Urban Planning and Real Estate. Her journey throughout the Diploma at Wellington has been nothing short of extraordinary ending up with her getting 42 points. It has been a pleasure to see her extremely hardwork and dedication pay off.
Jenny, who achieved a point score of 40, joins the London School of Economics and Political Science, and begins her career in the world of business. Her desire to attend this university was not only based on it being a world-leading academic institution, but she was determined to pursue a British-style education in another of the world’s most excitingcities. Having worked hard to achieve very well in mathematics and business management she certainly has a great body of knowledge and study skills to pursue this course and be very successful.
With an interest in a diverse range of subjects, Kevin, who was the prize for being the academically highest achieving student in his year group for four consecutive years, has joined the University of Southern California. With offers from New York University, the University of Virginia, University College Davis, University College London and LSE he selected the university that was the best fit for him to pursue his varied interests. Despite being offered sizable scholarships for a number of US universities, Kevin knew the courses on offer to him at USC would allow him tocontinue to thrive academically; he has loved his first semester in the university he found to be the ‘best fit’ for him.
Yolanda, a graduate from Wellington Tianjin in 2019, has developed into a confident and independent young lady under teachers' guidance during her 3-year campus life. After attending the University of Victoria, Yolanda sent back the great news at passing the English speech and writing test which has a low pass rate of only 30%. As well as starting her professional course of learning successfully, Yolanda explained, “My dream is to become a teacher at Wellington one day.”
Mr Jeffrey, the Master of Wellington College Tianjin, commented at the Tianjin 2019 graduation ceremony, “Graduation can be a frightening step, given the certainties students get from their school, but I know that these young people have the tools to cope with such a change. They have grown up in a school which has supported them, challenged them, encouraged them and fostered in them a spirit of adventure that makes them ready to meet their new worlds head on.”

the preparation for individual life
Applying to overseas universities requires long-term preparations by pupils, which may take up to 3 years or even longer. As part of Wellington College China, pupils are guaranteed personalised support at every stage from research to realization, and parents can also receive effective guidance.
On one side, with a highly experienced team of teachers and tutors fully focused on the whole university application process, we offer courses around university and career planning as well as one-on-one counselling and various kinds of support activities, helping pupils to identify their interests and get to know how to research overseas universities and choose the right major and future career. Parents are also supported through the university guidance lecture series so that they can also work with their children to help them realise their ambitions fully.
Activities like admissions counsellor's visits and global university fairs across the school year bring the opportunities of direct communication with representatives from leading universities. Every year the global university fair will be held by Wellington Tianjin and Wellington Shanghai separately. Several hundred of leading universities are invited to take part and communicate with Wellington pupils, who get first-hand admissions materials while being better informed about the admissions process by admissions counsellors from these prestigious universities.
The knowledge gathered by our pupils from each university is stimulating yet rewarding, and gives pupils a chance to find out who they are, what they value most and what they want to do in their lives. We believe that our young pupils have the skill to choose the university that suits their needs best. To choose their path of study well to fully develop their potential, and be successful and happy no matter what they want to do next. Preparing our young people for a life beyond the walls of Wellington College is a privilege and an honour and we wish them every success.
