Meet the Master: The Perfect Platform to Know Each Other

Our most recent, and long awaited, Meet the Master parent information sessions were held on December 2. These meetings are a wonderful platform for parents to meet our academic leadership team led by Mr. Paul Rogers, the Founding Executive Master of Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou, who has recently returned to Hangzhou following three weeks of meetings, training and workshops in The Wellington College in England. As always, both Meet the Master sessions – morning and afternoon – were fully booked several weeks in advance, a testament to the strong demand in Hangzhou for the unique Wellington College approach to holistic education.

Mr. Rogers shared his experiences while at The Wellington College in England, and announced the latest updates, developments and progress of the Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou project.

This time, we were lucky to be joined by a special guest, Mr. Jack Ruenprapan, the Director of Admissions and Marketing at Wellington College International Bangkok. Wellington College International Bangkok will officially open in 2018, at the same time as Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou. Mr. Ruenprapan also recently returned from The Wellington College in England where he attended a week of training together with Mr. Piers Matthews, Director of Admissions and Marketing at Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou in early November. Mr. Ruenprapan attended these sessions on behalf of the Wellington College Bangkok team, in order to exchange ideas and promote cooperation with the Wellington College China team. Mr. Ruenprapan’s visit to Hangzhou, and the sharing of ideas and resources it enabled, once again highlights the strong relationships between the members of the growing Wellington College family of schools across the globe.

On this occasion, the Head of Early Years at Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou, Ms. Jacqueline Speer, attended our Meet the Master parent information session in person for the first time. Ms. Speer joined the team in Hangzhou on December 1. Prior to this, she had been based in Melbourne, working closely with the academic leadership team in Hangzhou and keeping in close contact thanks to the digital age. Although she has just moved from Melbourne to Hangzhou,  her bright smile shined throughout the whole session.

Ms. Speer has been involved in Early Years’ education as a teacher and a leader for almost 20 years in Australia and in China, where she spent 11 years at well-known international schools in Shanghai with a solid understanding of high quality education both in local and global contexts. This experience has been backed up by both a Bachelor and Master’s qualification in early childhood with a strong focus on second language acquisition.

Mr. Shen Guoqiang, Head of Junior High, Mr. Jonathan Mills, Head of Primary and Ms. Sharon Wan, Deputy Head of Early Years also took the opportunity to introduce their departments respectively.

As with all of our previous sessions, the parents who attended had a great understanding of the education on offer at Wellington College Bilingual Hangzhou, and yet again demonstrated a strong commitment to providing their children with a well-rounded education, that is based on the Wellington Values and Identities. The Wellington College Hangzhou team thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the attendees.

Our Meet the Master parent information sessions, held regularly since September, have developed into the perfect platform for our team members and prospective parents to get to know each other and exchange ideas about what makes a great school. We are really looking forward to create a caring, bilingual community with our prospective parents. More sessions are coming up soon, please stay tuned.
