Sophie graduated from the University of York with a BA in History in 2010. After graduating, Sophie decided to travel to China to study Chinese as a second language. She enrolled at the Shanghai International Studies University where she obtained her HSK level 4. It was at this time that Sophie began teaching English as a second language and discovered her passion for teaching.
She says of her experience at this time, “Previously my work experience had been mainly confined to office environments and teaching was such a refreshing change. To be able to act as a positive influence on a child’s progress, not only academically, but also socially and behaviourally is such as a rewarding experience. From this point on, I knew that this was the career that I wanted to pursue.”
Consequently, Sophie returned to England to obtain her PGCE at the University of Warwick. After graduating, she took a teaching position at Stoke Heath Primary School in Coventry where she taught Year 3.
Sophie says of her appointment at Wellington, “I was so excited to have the opportunity to return to Shanghai and to teach at such an amazing school. I couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated or hardworking team of teachers than I have found at Wellington College International Shanghai.”
