Beyond the Classroom

“There are so many different opportunities to discover what it is you like and what you think you could be good at. The co-curricular activities and inter-house competitions give you a great chance to try out new things. Then, if you discover that you love something new, you have lots of ways to commit to it more heavily: you can join sports teams, bands or after school groups, or even play a part in a production.”

Lydia, Year 11 (Lynedoch)

Beyond the Classroom

In order to support the holistic development of our pupils, we ensure that life at Wellington College stretches far beyond the confines of the classroom. Wellingtonians are able to take full advantage of a wide variety of academic, sporting and artistic enrichment opportunities to help them kindle a lifelong love of learning and self-improvement.

Through our daily co-curricular activities after school, frequently inspiring whole-school events such as Arts Festival, Science Week or the ‘WellingTen’ talks (our unique event based on 10-minute presentations with follow up discussions), regional, national or international sporting competitions, or simply by immersing themselves in our wonderful library, Wellington is a place filled with opportunities for pupils to explore their individual interests. Each year, pupils have plenty of other opportunities to showcase their talents through productions and events such as the Christmas concerts, Chinese New Year shows and Jazz Nights.

Pupils also have numerous opportunities to take charge of their own development and explore exciting new learning opportunities on their own terms. When they came to us with new ideas, from hosting their own pupil-led events and interest groups, to creating independent sports training programmes, we ensure that our pupils are supported at every turn.
