EXPEDITIONS AND TRIPS

‘Our trip to Borneo was simply unlike anything else I’d ever experienced. Unfortunately, hiking through the rainforest is not as pleasant as it might initially sound, thanks to the frequent mosquito bites as well as the leeches! Three kilometres of hiking doesn’t sound like much but it’s very tough going when you’re weaving through vegetation and trudging through very sticky mud while breathing in the humid tropical air. Mr Corke later classified this as “Type Two Fun”; fun which isn’t fun at the time, but will provide life-long memories and stories!’

Expeditions and Trips

When it comes to our pupils’ development, we value the cultivation of personal resilience and fundamentally useful life skills as much as we do academic success. We believe that in order to face the rigorous demands of a rapidly changing world, our pupils should be equipped with a positive attitude typified by a willingness to seek out new challenges and overcome them through courage and determination.

We offer a variety of adventurous and life-changing trips and expeditions every year, organised internally by Wellington College departments and houses. We also offer pupils the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. This range of additional activities has been designed to develop teamwork, resilience, resourcefulness, leadership, responsibility and a sense of public service in each and every Wellingtonian.

Over the school year, we regularly organise various history/geography trips, competitive sports tours, leadership trips for year 7 & year 8 pupils and an expedition week for Senior School pupils at the end of school year. This range of trips gives all Wellingtonians the chance to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real life situations. Through proactive engagement in local, national and international excursions, we hope to instil in our pupils an outward-facing sense of adventure and a desire to make the most of every opportunity. By pushing them outside their comfort zone, we believe that they will gain invaluable new experiences which will help them develop both academic skills as well as positive personality traits.
