Central Office

Wellington College China has successfully established Wellington College International Tianjin, Wellington College International Shanghai and has launched Wellington College Shanghai Bilingual. In order to harness excellence, set standards and strengthen operations, the Wellington College China Central Office operates across the family of schools.

The aim of the Central Office is to enhance operations in existing schools by providing group level strategy and local level support, guidance and training. Working alongside the colleges and in cooperation with their leaders, the Central Office team provide expertise in the area of human resources, information technology, marketing, design, construction, leadership and education.

Central Office also leads on the development of new projects in China from the design stage through to curriculum development and pre-opening operations.

Dr. Ahmed Hussain

Dr Ahmed Hussain is the Director of Schools for Wellington College China. This position involves leading on strategy, standards and development of academic operations for the group. Following an initial career as a PhD student and then research scientist with University of Nottingham, Ahmed trained as teacher of science. Following a number of teaching and leadership positions, Ahmed was appointed as a Lecturer of Education at Durham University. Here he led on training and developing teachers, teaching on masters and doctoral courses as well as undertaking research in the fields of curriculum analysis, assessment and teacher professional development. Ahmed took up a number of senior leadership positions in schools in the UK and Dubai along with working in the education reform project in Abu Dhabi. Here he led projects on senior leader and teacher professional development along with supporting the development and rollout of national standards for school leaders and teachers in the UAE. Ahmed is a passionate educator who was drawn to the Wellington group because of the educational values, ethos and commitment to a truly holistic education. He is married with two young boys, and as a family they are truly embracing the rich heritage and culture of Shanghai and China.

Simon Ruscoe – Price

Simon graduated from Anglia Ruskin Cambridge and University of Montepellier with a BA Honours Degree in Humanities and Social Studies majoring in French and Economics. Simon has a PGCE teaching qualification from the University of Reading and an NPQH from the National College in school leadership.

Prior to joining Wellington College China Simon has over twenty-three years as an experienced teacher and school leader. He is an experienced teacher recruiter and trainer including initial teacher training. He has led faculties and departments in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and more recently as Head of a start-up school.

After having served nine years as Director of Specialism at Northgate High School in Ipswich, Simon took his first step into international education as Deputy Director of a national school improvement programme for an overseas government in the United Arab Emirates from 2007 to 2009. In 2010 and 2011 Simon worked as Course Director of a large and prestigious residential international summer school programme in the UK that included English language courses for overseas students. In 2012 Simon embarked on his travels again and implemented a specialist international curriculum delivering academic excellence across The Manav Rachna group of schools in India.  Simon returned in April 2014 to become the founding Head of the Gatwick School.

Simon is very excited about being able to bring all of his experience together to bring about excellence in Language Development at Wellington College China. His understanding of international curriculums and his ability to model best child-centred learning practice will create a culture which celebrates excellence and enables children to achieve the heights that they would like to achieve.

Stella Zhou

Ms Stella Zhou graduated from East China Normal University with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature and a master’s degree in Education. Ms Zhou has more than 10 years working experience in international schools as a Chinese teacher and a Chinese co-teacher, working closely with foreign teachers. To foster students to be “Whole Persons” who are able to adapt to the multi-cultural environment is Ms. Zhou’s working target. Besides teaching, Ms Zhou has also worked closely with her colleagues to develop cyber source of teaching Chinese as an additional language, and compile textbooks and workbooks for publication.

In the past few years, Ms Zhou has been a start up bilingual school principal. Together with the foreign principal, she led the founding academic team to explore and practice bilingual curriculum for Chinese students. After joining Wellington China, Ms Zhou wish to bring quality bilingual education for more Chinese families.

Ms Zhou is married and has one daughter who is now studying in Wellington College Bilingual Shanghai.

Lorena Zhi

Lorena Zhi is currently Group Director of Marketing at Wellington College China. Having grown up in Canton, Lorena attended Lingnan (University) College at Sun Yat-sen University, from which she obtained a BA in Economics. Lorena then worked in the field of advertisement, brand management, marketing and communications for over 13 years in China, United States, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan regions. She has extensive Marketing and Communication experience in a variety of industries, from international 4A advertising, fast-moving consumer goods, direct selling, sports to real estate industries, and served industrial leading brands such as China Mobile, Wrigley’s, Amway and Nike. Becoming a mother motivated Lorena’s interest in education. With strong passion and belief in Wellington College’s educational values, ethos and commitment to a truly holistic education, Lorena decided to join in Wellington College China and relocated with her family to Shanghai. Her young boy is now attending Wellington College International Shanghai. Lorena is fluent in Mandarin, English and Cantonese. And she enjoys delicious food, travelling and running marathon around the world!

Lui Jin Foong

Lui Jin Foong is the Senior IT Manager for Wellington College China. This position involves working on strategy, standards and development of the IT infrastructure and operations for the group. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering. With over 20 years’ experience in the computer industry, he had worked mainly in the Software R&D specializing in infrastructure and Internet technologies. Here he held various positions as developers to senior roles across a few product groups. He had led projects as a Senior Principal Engineer in the Internet Services business unit managing a team of developers and operations group in the delivery of e-books, video communications and multimedia content services. He had also led on a multi-region global infrastructure implementation, adoption of cloud based solutions and oversaw the WiMAX core network infrastructure. He is married with one teenage boy and a girl. As a family, they came to Shanghai to experience a different city and country, gaining a wider exposure to different cultures and people.
